Embracing Natural Methods for Workplace Stress Management: A Mumpreneur’s Perspective

As a mumpreneur with more than two decades of experience leading a communication agency, I have witnessed first-hand the toll that workplace stress can take. Over the years, I have explored various methods to stay afloat and, after an uncomfortably near-miss encounter with a burnout about a decade ago, one that has been a lifesaver for me is the Wim Hof corporate stress management technique.

For those unfamiliar, Wim Hof, also known as the Iceman, is a wild-haired and bearded Dutch who developed a unique method to confront stress by combining specific breathing techniques, cold exposure, and mind work. This natural approach has gained popularity worldwide for its ability to enhance physical and mental well-being, boost the immune system, and increase resilience to stress.

Personally, I have found that incorporating parts of the Wim Hof method into my daily routine has not only helped me stay afloat in the face of constant pressures but has also contributed to my overall health, even more so during and since Covid – despite the onslaught of menopause. The method has improved my focus, increased my energy levels, and allowed me to maintain a sense of calm (most of the time) even during super yacky times.  


Yet, despite the clear benefits of natural stress management techniques, I have noticed that many leaders I come across with are yet to adopt these practices. Instead, they continue to push and struggle with the detrimental effects of chronic stress, which can lead to burnout, decreased productivity, and ultimately, a deterioration in overall well-being.  My heart goes out specially to many struggling mumpreneurs I have met along the way, as many seem submerged.

This is why I have decided to bring a Wim Hof trainer for corporate stress management to Mauritius, even if we had to plead for one of them to give us a slot and bring cold exposure to a tropical island! We believe that by introducing these techniques to leadership teams and all interested employees, we can provide them with some super tools to navigate workplace stress more effectively.

We hope to inspire individuals to recognize the importance of managing stress in a healthy and natural way because experience has taught me, the hard way, the consequences of not doing so. It is crucial that leaders and individuals alike prioritize their mental and physical well-being in order to thrive in today’s fast-paced and demanding world. By embracing natural stress management methods like the Wim Hof technique, we can empower ourselves and our teams to overcome challenges while maintaining balance, focus, and resilience.
